1000 Monkeys with 1000 Typewriters...

I have an hour or more drive to work every day so I spend a lot of time in my car.  To beat the boredom and the constant barrage of Pink Floyd songs on the "Classic Rock" station, I listen to audiobooks.  I've used Audible for years and I love it.

Around ten years ago I use to drive a truck across country.  I would have loved to have Audible back in those days.  Back then there was a company that put books on tape (or CD) in truck stops.  You could rent the tapes at one truck stop and drop it off at another participating truck stop.  It was pretty cool but they were expensive.  However, that is how I listened to most of the Harry Potter books.  Of course I also read the Harry Potter books as well.  Let's face it, those things were a juggernaut.

Back to Audible.  My two youngest daughters, Doodle and Bob, are both bigger readers.  They are also big fans of audiobooks.  They are also cheapskates!  Instead of getting their own accounts they have taken to using mine.  Every month when the new credits come in, it is a race to see who gets to order books.  That's cool because I've been exposed to a lot of books that I would never have picked out on my own.  For example The Chronicles of St. Mary's.

If you haven't read The Chronicles of St. Mary's, it takes place just far enough in the future that you can't really pinpoint it.  It's about an organization that travels back in time to study historical events.  That sounds pretty dry but with every "jump" back in time something always goes sideways.  It moves pretty quick and you find yourself really caring about the characters.

A quick note, don't get too attached to the characters.  The author doesn't have a problem with racking up the body count.

Doodle and Bob both got a head start on me with this series but I caught up with them.  I just finished the last book a couple of days ago and now I can't wait for the next book to come out.

There are two footnotes I need to add to this post:
1.  "Doodle" and "Bob" are not their real names.  The names have have changed to protect the innocent.  Or in this case, to protect the annoying.
2.  Seriously, have you ever listened to a "Classic Rock" station.  Every other song is either Pink Floyd or Boston.  Those bands only had a couple of real hits but they milk them for all they are worth.

Are You Ready to Get Spanked?

Yeah, I know you came here expecting something dirty.  Get over yourself, pervert!

I'm just an average dude with a wife, kids, a job, and a mortgage and I'm here to whine and complain about my life.  You can either join me or move along.

Since you're still reading this, I might as well tell you a little something about myself.  I'm old, out of shape, lazy, and grouchy.  My wife annoys me.  My kids annoy me.  Their kids annoy me.  Actually, I"m pretty fond of that generation. Come to think of it, I like my kids too every now and then.  Sorry, I lost the thread of my rant.  Let me get back to it.  My job annoys me.  My co-workers annoy me.  Politics annoy me.  Easily triggered, whining because they didn't get a participation trophy leftist snowflakes annoy me.  Ultra right-wingers who put the blame for all of America's problems on whichever group they're not a part of annoy me.  And, I'm betting if I ever met you, you would annoy me to.

Are you getting the idea?

I bet you're sorry you stuck around, aren't you?
